Cliff Scaling in the Peak District
Including absolute beginners will soon be scaling protected Peak District crags on this two-day session. Learners will learn securing the rope, safety techniques and several climbing techniques, along with abseiling down. Limited to a half-dozen students to each tutor, there is plenty of personalized coaching and tailored objectives. The course is appropriate for all individuals aged 13 and over, ranging from first-time climbers to those with a bit of gym climbing background. It is non-residential course, but you can find a range of suggested, affordable accommodation nearby, featuring campsites, hostels, B&Bs and pubs with rooms. The base is 10 minutes’ walk from the local train station, situated on the rail route from Manchester to Sheffield.

Abstract Painting in Spain
This historic hillside village, a picturesque town in AndalucĂa, approximately 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the breathtaking setting for this art retreat. Participants of every skill level – even novices – will learn how to design and produce abstract artworks. Part of the schedule will be spent outside, working on tutorials out in nature. These charcoal drawings and paintings will then be expanded upon in the studio, with guests completing a number of abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be displayed in the local community. The group has exclusive access of the venue, which is set around an open courtyard and has a sun terrace with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The price encompasses five days of art instruction; full board; and an trip to the local castle and other local sights.

Vegetarian Cooking in the Algarve
This Mediterranean foodie getaway, set on a villa by the river in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Participants will master the art of meze spreads, attend a falafel-making workshop, refine mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses like spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the village market and a local vineyard to taste Portuguese wines, along with leisure time for walks by the nearby river, to unwind on the deck or take a dip in the pool. The farmhouse, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, as well as safari tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in High Wycombe
Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an energizing, welcoming weekend adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format each day is a party-style group warmup, followed by several 90-minute workshops covering different urban dance forms, then an hour-long jam to demonstrate those solos. Dancers are divided into levels based on skill level, so it is perfect for those who are brand new to street dance, right up to experienced performers or instructors. The camp doesn’t include accommodation but there are a number of hostels and hotels nearby, and it is under an hour by train into central London.

Sea Shanty Break in St Ives
St Ives is the perfect spot for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will learn historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at composing original ones. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The retreat is held in a rural hotel with views of St Ives Bay. Full board are provided, such as a Cornish cream tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Grog, unfortunately, is not provided. Creative Writing in Greece
Author and tutor Greg Mosse runs the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He explores everything from plot, characters, setting and suspense, to sending manuscripts to publishers. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the start and finish of the retreat. The holiday is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the foot of the White mountains – ten one- and two-bedroom cottages are set around a garden and pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to share). On the last night, budding authors mark the occasion with a musical performance in the garden and a final meal.

Beginners' Apiculture in Wales
The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a host of programs covering eco-living: from creating habitats to making pallet furniture. This two-day course will help participants get to grips with the basics of apiary management, explore the life cycle of honeybees and learn about their ecological importance. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. The weekend is also a chance to relax in the centre's sustainably managed forests, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, bats and rare birds. Accommodation the evening prior is 80 pounds, and full-board accommodation during the course is 97 pounds.

Yachting for Novices in the Blackwater Estuary
These recently launched summer sailing weekends are spent on dinghies and Dufours on the estuary in Essex. Sailors can improve their steering, strengthen their nautical skills and work towards the Royal Yachting Association’s certification levels in a supportive atmosphere. There are day-only and overnight options, staying in simple dorms in the waterfront training centre.
