A Ton of Japanese Animation Updates Dropped Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season provide a multitude of activities much better than checking the latest news: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and using deep breathing to refrain from snapping at family members. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting developments emerged during the festive period, and if you overlooked some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the most shocking revelation, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a good sign. However, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now everyone is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two
Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
