Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
