Arsenal's manager feels assured that his team can keep managing with player absences after disclosing that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

Havertz has been sidelined since August due to knee surgery. Originally slated to be available at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when advancing his rehabilitation and could not progress “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is much more reliable and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This development leaves a tactical puzzle for the midweek home game against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also available after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Linger

Additional concerns affect centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the backline for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the £250m spend on reinforcements in the last transfer window has placed the club in a far better place to deal with such absences.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

In response if increased squad depth was aiding their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Yes, because this season has been worse in some areas, and now the problems with the backline,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in different positions, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we want to compete at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the delay highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the required step and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

The manager conveyed his eagerness to welcome him back. “The team is keen to have him. I mean, Havertz is someone that, personally, I value highly for his contributions to the team, but his character, his nature. I see him suffer being outside.”
