Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have previous links to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they begin the process of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
