The distinguished UK star Mirren, currently winner of an Oscar statuette, four Baftas, three Golden Globes, five Emmy Awards, and a Tony, will soon earn an additional esteemed prize to her trophy case: the Cecil B. DeMille Golden Globe lifetime achievement award.

Ceremony Details

Mirren, 80, formerly given a damehood back in 2003 and made a Bafta fellow in 2014, will accept this honor in a ceremony January 8, three days before the primary Globes ceremony take place, as part of a program described by the Globes as the “Golden Eve”.

Also part of the event will be the bestowal of the Globes’ Carol Burnett honor for television achievement, the recipient of which is still to be revealed. The prior year’s honorees featured Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Dame Helen represents a force of nature, and her career is nothing short of remarkable,” said Helen Hoehne, Helen Hoehne. “Her captivating roles and commitment to her craft persistently influence countless performers and audiences alike. We are deeply honored to bestow upon her the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Professional Journey

Mirren rose to fame back in the 70s through significant parts on stage at London’s West End and through the Royal Shakespeare Company and in films like O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

Back in the 90s, her prominent part in detective drama Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Other key films comprise Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her portrayal as the Queen in the 2006 movie The Queen, a role she revisited during 2013 within The Audience, the theatrical work from Peter Morgan regarding the encounters involving the monarch and the PM Thatcher, and for which she received a Tony Award during 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• More recent films include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, where she served as narrator.
• Her performance in the Netflix version for The Thursday Murder Club has garnered acclaim and honors speculation is increasing about her portrayal as an ailing family head in the film by Kate Winslet directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, audiences will see Mirren portraying Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nods are set to be revealed on 8 December, with the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners anticipated to be prominent.
