Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Mentioning Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels fitting to speak out against the Trump administration, concerned it could intensify polarizing arguments and further divisions within the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says the Actress
During a discussion, she reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, public figures do not make a difference whatsoever on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has spoken candidly about voting for both right and leftwing presidential nominees in past elections. Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democrats and revealing she understood during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was undermining her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Earlier in her career, she commented that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “as I think she’s a strong contender and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to defend abortion access.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of the former president as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage stars have over the public choices was highlighted by the outcome.
“Another four years seems distinct,” noted she of his administration. “As he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Lawrence is discussing the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she plays a young mom who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. During a interview session for the film in the film festival, Lawrence commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by expressing that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the conversations of American politics currently and how that is going to be normalised to the children right now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
She attempted to refocus anger about the situation to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she advised, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to avoid specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her work in the new film. Even though Ramsay has disputed the story being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, the actress shared that she identified with aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, shortly after filming concluded.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she explained, “imagining every negative outcome, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a treatment called Zurzuvae and I continued it for 14 days and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
The actor also mentioned regarding the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It feels nice,” she commented, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
