This winter recruitment period is always a time of intense rumour and possible big-money deals. Several prominent players find themselves connected to transfers away from their current clubs. Here is a look at a selection of the top figures who could be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, which has left the player available, it appears a major move is close. This 25-year-old possesses a contract featuring a sizeable release clause applicable for a brief window in early January. Latest reports indicate the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Former interested parties like Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have turned their attention to other targets, potentially opening the door for teams like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a late move.

M. Guéhi

This England defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer move to Liverpool falling through. As his deal set to run out in the summer, January is the London club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of elite sides, such as City and several continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a January exit is considered difficult, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Wales winger has found first-team minutes limited at Spurs this campaign. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer last season, he has begun only a small number of Premier League games. It is understood the North London outfit would be open to a transfer for the correct valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally showing an interest.

The Portugal playmaker might be poised for a comeback to the English top flight after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he is willing to accept a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

The veteran Germany goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barcelona under new coach Hansi Flick. Having lost his place and had surgery, a winter exit looks increasingly likely. Villa were initially linked as a possible suitor, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing interest in the keeper.

K. Smit

The much-admired Netherlands midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team.
