Reigning Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight year.
The 27-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.
She earned nearly 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
