The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign which brought a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead another team in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, so I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on which situations must arise to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad talking freely, I appreciate that. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions following significant transfers, but he rubbished the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect at the club. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Handling this individually is challenging. Overwhelming.”
