The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
