The Reds Vows Not to Abandon Offensive Approach Despite Current Struggles, Says Head Coach Slot
The Dutch manager has stated that the club's hierarchy are aligned with his perspective regarding the team's slump and he will not abandon their forward-thinking philosophy in pursuit of a solution. The manager conceded that six defeats in seven matches was below standard ahead of the weekend fixture with Villa.
Growing Expectations Throughout Challenging Phase
The manager acknowledged the expectations were high before his makeshift team were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he emphasized that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the team's proprietors or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of approximately £450 million.
"We share common perspectives," commented the manager, whose squad will encounter the Spanish giants in the Champions League and visit the Citizens in the Premier League.
Team Strength Continues Unquestioned
The coach is convinced his team "possess an exceptional group if they are all fit and completely set for the schedule ahead". He noted that the recent signings in players such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, who is likely to miss out again against Aston Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in such a good place for the immediate prospects and the distant prospects".
Team Cohesion Issues
When questioned about why his team were taking so long to gel, he answered: "That question isn't constructive. 'Why, why, why?' I offer insights and people say I'm making justifications. I can come up with five or six reasons why we are not winning as much or losing as much as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."
- Even if I could come up with 200 excuses
- When you are Liverpool you must avoid losses
- Unfortunately six out of seven
Backline Performance
Only Burnley (twenty-one) have allowed more significant openings from normal situations this season than Slot's team (19). The league leaders, the Gunners, have faced two. Yet Slot denies the team has been overly exposed and maintains there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a cautious system after ten matches without a shutout.
"In my view we're not allowing many opportunities so I see no justification to modify our philosophy entirely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he said.
Particular Cases
"When facing United, how many opportunities did we allow? When playing Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we hardly conceded a shot on target. In every match we played until now we haven't given up a lot of chances. Absolutely not. We do give away a bit more than the prior term but that is related to us being behind early so you become more adventurous. But overall I don't feel that our problem is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we fail to convert the chances we create."
