A spending plan that would end the longest funding lapse in US history is advancing toward the House of Representatives for a crucial vote on the coming day.

On day 43 of the legislative standoff, representatives are coming back to Washington to decide whether to approve a legislative agreement that would finance public services for the next eight weeks.

GOP leaders expressed confidence the funding measure would pass through the House of Representatives, regardless of their slim advantage. But leading opposition members pledged to fight it.
